TRISH MCKINNEY
Mixed Media
As a teacher, Trish McKinney is passionate to inspire and connect everyone to the creator within themselves. As a painter, she is constantly curious and experimental, thinking outside the box, and always asking “what if.” Using colorful and patterned gel printed papers and painting on top of them is Trish’s recipe for a “Party on Your Paper.” Students will first learn how to create wild, colorful and patterned sheets of paper which become the surface of the paintings. Then, the workshop will be about learning how to get colors, patterns and textures to connect and to create wonderful paintings. Students will learn the concepts of negative painting, lost and found edges, and color theory -- to name just a few -- all in one class. This workshop will be fast-paced fun from beginning to end.

JEAN PEDERSON
Mixed Media Painter
Limitless Layering with Water Media

Layering is fun and flexible! In this workshop, the class will be encouraged to use all forms of acrylic products and collage. Students will explore painting referential subjects and then shifting to stylizing and lastly, transitioning to non-referential imagery. Emphasis will be on mixed media focusing largely on water-soluble mediums. You will be encouraged to work beyond your traditional practice in pursuit of a stronger personal language!
Jean Pederson has been painting for more than twenty years in Canada, where she lives. She has won numerous awards and has exhibited her works throughout the world. Her traditional practice includes referential imagery of people, still life, landscape and abstraction. Mixed media is an important venue for her creative expression, and the layering of a variety of media offers Jean an assortment of possibilities within her work; quality of edge, line and texture all play a role within her imagery.

ALINE ORDMAN
Oils & Pastels
Dynamic Painting
Using Abstract Thinking to Create Illustrative Paintings
Painting is learning to see. Often, we paint what we think we see because we all have preconceived notions of what something looks like. Aline is known for her vivid paintings and creative use of color. Working plein air or from their own photo references, students will transform these into pastel or oil paintings using the principles of color and design. Along with daily painting demonstrations, Aline will emphasize the understanding of color in terms of temperature, intensity and value while translating those ideas using both oil and/or pastels. Experimenting with exciting color while maintaining the value and intensity will serve as a great exercise in helping students expand color sensitivity. Aline gives a lot of personal attention and works to develop the individual style of each student. Let’s say goodbye to overworked tight paintings and learn to create loose, bold but still illustrative work.
